  1. I suppose you are still dabbling in what kinds of reflections to photograph or just want to take a more broad view of the idea of reflections, however I would like to see more of a description on your intent or what you most want out us to see out of the photographs.
The images that are working for me, the ones I find most interesting, are images 1,2,6 and 7. The reason they are intriguing lies in the duel images I see. There is the subject plus the reflection of either the same subject or of an entirely different image behind or around the corner. They are more interesting to look at then the images of the sphere shapes. The first images is conceptually interesting in the ominous tone I sense in the hazy unsaturated image of the beach possibly before a store. Like the other images I find to be the strongest it either reflects a moment of the present, the past, future, or even what we can not see, hence the mirror images work as well. Of images 4 and 7 the seventh is stronger because of the reflective quality you captured.
The images not working are 3,4 and 5. This is because I am only focusing on the object in front of me and the only reflective quality I see is light from a flash or a external lighting source. Image four does not work compositionally because of all the white space around the object either. I am sort of at ends with the 6th image because it is strong like the others only I am looking at what I already see so in that sense it lacks what hte stronger images held.

  2. I just wanted to start out by saying that I love the reflections idea and I think you will get some great photos out of it.
Image one uses a good concept for reflections but the excution needs a little work. The reflection is hidden at the bottom of the image and I almost didnt even see it. Take the shot again but make the reflection a more prominent part of the photo. The 5th image I'm assuming is a reflection of light. I would make the source of the light visible in the photo as well as the reflection just so it's a little more obvious what is being reflected since light could come from any source in the area. The only other suggestion I would add is to make whatever is in a reflection somehing visuallly interesting.
Images 2 and 6 are working the best out of this group. They are both well lit and the reflections clearly show the object they are reflecting. The 1st and 3rd images also have great potential. As I said before the concept of your first image is great just needs some touch up. I would like to see some more shots like your third image and see what you can come up with to put in the reflection. Great start!

  3. Your idea is very good and I feel that you will be able to come up with very interesting photos with reflections as the subject matter. I really enjoy knowing what I'm looking for in this book idea and then looking for the execution of that idea in your pictures. For example, I wasn't sure what the picture of the beach had to do with your idea but then I found the reflection of the woman in the water. Bravo!! I liked it not being so obvious. The other pictures works alright and works as advertised, but 3 and 5 don't do it for me. I think with 3 I'm thinking Christmas already? But if you were to zoom in on the glass ball part it might be more interesting to me. And the 5th one although visually interesting stands out to me.

  4. The photos that are working the best are the ones which show more of the actual reflection, instead of the object that is reflecting. (if that makes sense) Some of the images are just very distracting and it is difficult to even find the reflection(photos-1 and 3) I think the images that are working best are 6 and 7. The idea is very interesting and I think you will be able to create strong, interesting images with this concept.

  5. I like the idea to take pictures of reflections. The pictures you have in spots 2,4 and 65 are working the best for me. They all are clear examples of what I believe you think are trying to do.
I also think the first one is really good but just feel like there is a lot going on around the actual reflection that made me not 100% sure the reflection was the focal point of the photo. The X mas ball and the purplish one work less because the reflections are not so clear.

  6. Pros: The concept is good and basic photo101 project. The images that are outdoors are the best quality and lighting. The composition is good on 1 and 2.

Cons: One thing I have to say on technical side is not to use a a flash, using a very slow shutter and tripod will give a better effect. If you do use a flash(mostly on board) use a piece of tissue paper over to soften the harshness. Image 7 need white balancing. Images 3, 4, 5 are not doing it for this set cause of the washed out effect.

  7. I didn’t see an artist statement or book statement on the page. I thought maybe you haven’t gotten it on there yet so I don’t have anything to comment on there. I am assuming you are doing reflections in ultra shiny things. If that is true, all of the pictures work except for the first one of the people on the beach. That one seems to be more of a personal reflection photo than just reflections on objects. But I wasn’t sure if maybe you were trying to do both at the same time?

  8. Amanda, your strongest piece is the first image with the woman at the beach. It is vibrant and alive. There is also a curious haze or mist that fogs everything in view. Compositionally it is strong and even metaphorically it connects to your statement. Seeing the less than perfect aspects of a white sandy beach are the scenes I like to see.

Unfortunately the other images are weaker than your first. The ceiling fixture in particular, with the gold, strikes me as haphazard and rushed. Like you simply stuck your camera in the air and shot. Is that all you want? I don’t think it is really. So just take care in your pictures unless a rushed and hurried process are things you wish to communicate.

  9. Amanda,

This is a great start--I do want a written statement here, visible. I may be an idiot, if it is here I cannot find it.

The first image of the beach is amazing. Perfect moment.

I agree with all of the technical suggestions. Your images need to be more well composed, well lit, and color corrected. Put ten more minutes into each image and you will have a gorgeous book. I think it is fine to play with the multiple interpretations of the word "reflections". Keep at it, and balance the conceptual with the literal.
